Pre Admission Fasting
On the morning of your surgery please adhere to the fasting requirements previously outlined by the Day Surgery. It is important you follow these instructions to prepare you for the general anaesthesia associated with your procedure.
Admission
On the day of admission we ask you come to Reception on Level 1 of the Day Surgery where you will be welcomed and your paperwork promptly checked.
For your convenience we suggest you wear loose comfortable clothing; leave valuables like jewellery at home; please remove all nail polish and makeup. If you wear contact lenses they will need to be removed before surgery so we suggest you bring your lens case. The North Shore Specialist Day Surgery is a totally smoke-free environment in line with NSW Health Legislation.
What to Bring
Please bring your Medicare card and your private health fund membership card. We can provide you with a medical certificate should you need one. Please bring your preferred method of payment as you will need to settle any gap costs at the time.
Pre Op
Following admission, you will be settled into the Day Surgery where you will be given a warm gown to change into and an area to leave your personal belongings. Your anaesthetist and doctor will meet you prior to your procedure for usual preoperative medical checks and ensure you are comfortable before surgery.
Patient Support
We recommend you have the support of a family member or friend on the day of your surgery and particularly post operatively to take you home. We have a comfortable waiting area adjacent to the Day surgery entrance on the Ground floor of the building for their convenience. Local coffee shops within walking distance include Cafe Northside 2/2 Greenwich Rd and the Sure Cafe in the Urban Hotel 194 Pacific Highway.
Going Home
Following surgery our nursing team will monitor your recovery from the anaesthesia and a doctor will approve your discharge. You will be given written instructions and any medication prescriptions as directed by your doctor.
You will need someone to drive and or accompany you home, and we recommend they stay with you for the remainder of the day so you can rest. We do not recommend travelling alone in a taxi or on public transport.
